Which Way to the Beach?

Posted by kassie

Wow, what an amazing weekend!  We hopped in the truck with David and took a drive down to Brighton Beach, about a 2 hr drive south of London.  It was a glorious day!

Brighton

When we were about halfway there I started to get butterflies in my stomach and had to calm them down and remind myself that this is England.  I didn't have a bathing suit, a towel, sunscreen, or flip-flops.  I wasn't going to get a tan and feel my body baking under the glorious sun.  I wasn't going to feel the sand between my toes.  No, I had jeans, flats, a coat,  sunglasses, and an umbrella (for the rain). I was going to remain pastey white and get pebbles stuck between my toes.  The butterflies were gone, but hey, I was still excited!

So the very first thing I did when we got there was make my way down to the beach.

Hello English Channel!

The next thing I did was prepare for the big event.

Getting Ready!

And then I took the plunge!

Oh yeah, it's cold!

The first time these toes have been in the English Channel!  And I made it look so good, that some others followed shortly after!

Beejay and David go for a dip!

And yes, it was COLD!

Yup, it's cold!

And I must mention, walking on and rolling down those pebbles in bare feet was not that fun!

Next we headed off towards the Brighton Pier.

Then, we did a walking tour through Brighton that we found in one of the books on David's shelf.  We just can't go anywhere without exploring fascinating bits of history!

Royal Pavilion - designed by George IV, who first came to Brighthelmstone for the good of his health in 1783
St. Peter's Church - built in spiky Gothic Revival Style, completed in late 1820's

We enjoyed some beach-side burgers, fish and chips, walked through the market, and explored the beach and town.  The temperature reached about 70, making for an absolutely beautiful day.  It was nice to enjoy some wide-open spaces and look out and not be able to see France.  Ah, the sunshine and ocean water, how I love you both!

Anyone want to come visit us now?

Love from London ~ K
